U12s Vanguard Division
Swift FC started the game on the front foot against a strong Mayflower side. Ethan Parish neatly pulling the ball down with his right foot before a neat left foot finish to take an early lead. An acrobatic effort from Woody Malone doubled the lead soon after. Back came Mayflower with 2 well taken goals to level the tie. A 2nd from Ethan Parish will a low drove restored the Swift lead before Alfie Harris popped up at the back post with a fine finish to restore a 2 goal lead. A thunderbolt from outside the area by Jasper Brandon completed the Swift scoring before Mayflower Rangers came back with another goal. 5 goals from midfield for Swift and a superb display at the heart of defence by Alfie Wills perhaps the difference between the 2 teams on the day.

First game of the season and the first at 11 a side. Was great to get back out on the pitch and despite the one sided result, I wanted to congratulate Tavistock for showing effort to the end on what was an incredibly warm morning.
The game was also played with respect and in great spirits throughout which is how it should be.

Pick of the goals was Alex Glyn-Jones’s outside of the boot lob to the far corner.
Player of the match was Corbyn Rudd.

Torpoint Athletic Youth 2 – 3 Bere Alston
16/09/2023
U16s Howe Division

Not often you see that a game with five goals but very few chances were created. Bere Alston settled quickest with Torpoint keeper Matt having to close down the opposition striker a couple of times in the first few minutes before two long distance efforts from Torpoint.
Torpoint grew into the game and started playing nice football and on 16 minutes Lennon played a great ball in the channel to Trystan who shot wide after a combination of the Bere keeper and full back closed the space.
The rest of the first half was a battle in the middle of the park until the 37th minute when Kenz pressed and got in the way off a clearance which fortuitously looped over, the keeper into the net. 1-0 Torpoint, half-time
Message to Torpoint was to settle and concentrate after the restart but within 60 secs a throw in took a unexpected bouce and glance Sami, Torpoint’s right full backs arm and the Ref awarded the Penalty. Matt went the right way and got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out 1-1.
Torpoint hit back almost straight away when three minutes later a corner drifted all the way to the back post, but Torpoint worked it nicely back to Alfie N the corner taken who delivered a beautiful ball in for Lucas who rose highest to restore Torpoint’s lead.
On 51 minutes a kick out from Matt unfortunately hit the back of Torpoint’s centre back and fell straight to Bere’s danger man Adam who finished superbly from 25 yards. Torpoint continued to push for a winner when on 70 mins Torpoint’s keeper took a heavy touch from a back pass and Bere’s striker nicked it off him and finished from a tight angle. 3-2 Bere and that’s the way it finished
Hard fought match with some strong physical but fair challenges a credit to both teams for an entertaining game.
Special mention to Lee Johnson the referee who had a superb game and controlled the match well.
Torpoint will be disappointed to get nothing from the game and on the balance of play deserved at least a point.
